During normal turntable operation the tonearm tends to be pulled inwards, ‘skating’ towards the centre of the record. In listening terms this can cause issues with channel balance and distortion, as well as increasing stylus and record wear. To minimise this effect, the anti-skate function of a turntable applies an outward force to the tonearm, centralising the stylus within the groove.
On your Alva turntable the anti-skating force is adjustable using the dial located alongside the tonearm, and during the setup of your turntable we recommend that this is set to ‘2’ to match the tracking force of the cartridge.
